Practice Update Autumn 2009
October 2009

Alshamsi Terra Firma is enjoying a vibrant period at present, with several high profile projects underway. We are delighted to be involved in Phase 1 of the internationally-important Masdar City project in Abu Dhabi, where we're working alongside Aedas Architects. Designed to be the world's first carbon-neutral town, Masdar aims to reduce domestic water consumption to 100 litres per person per day (more than 5 times less than the current Abu Dhabi average); to recycle 50% of rubbish, eliminating the need for landfill; to convert 33% of rubbish into energy; and to compost 17%. It is also intended that more than 70% of the city's energy will be generated by solar power.

Also in Abu Dhabi, we are working on the prestigious Saadiyat Island project, creating exterior exhibition areas and a grand entrance plaza for the forthcoming temporary branches of the Louvre and Guggenheim Museums, whlst in Dubai, we are working on a luxury villa complex for a private client.

These projects and others kept us busy over the summer and our attendance at the recent Cityscape exhibition in Dubai heralded the launch of a seasonal marketing drive as we approach the fourth anniversary of our founding in Dubai in January 2010.

As ever, we welcome contact from potential clients and colleagues.
